ASDA to Host Summit & Signing Ceremony, Invites AZ Districts as Founding Members

A logo with the Arizona state outline, a star, a group of people, and the text "Arizona Special Districts Alliance."

Arizona’s special districts and their leaders will soon have a unified organization offering resources for effective and accountable governance, professional development, and more with establishment of the Arizona Special Districts Alliance (ASDA).

The Alliance’s mission is simple, but strong:

“Joining together to raise awareness of, advocate for, and strengthen all Arizona’s local special districts governments and their essential services to Arizonans.”

ASDA aims to unite special districts providing essential services to Arizonans across the state – regardless of the type of public services provided – to provide a forum for district leaderships’ education and professional development, resources for good and accountable governance, promotion of public awareness of the state’s 350+ special districts, and state and federal advocacy to strengthen and advance special districts. The primary goal is to ensure special districts are positioned to provide reliable, high-quality services to their communities.

The ASDA Steering Committee is now inviting Arizona’s special districts to join the Alliance as founding members ahead of the July 1, 2024, launch date and to be part of the growth and guidance of the organization.

A Spring Summit and Signing Ceremony will be held in Flagstaff on May 22 for interested special district managers, directors, and stakeholders, for a half-day program on financial, governance, and advocacy best practices. A formal signing ceremony & meet-and-greet with state and federal legislative offices are also planned.

A group of special district managers, district directors, county officials, professional service providers, and representatives from the Arizona Fire Districts Association have been coordinating ASDA’s development, as a steering committee, since Summer 2023.

ASDA’s Steering Committee voted March 20 to finalize a memorandum of understanding-style consensus agreement to govern the Alliance. Special districts and organization interested in joining ASDA must agree with the organization’s purpose and co-sign as a member.
